Best thing about working for yourself?
I dabble in a little bit of everything, from writing, photography, billing to walking with a pooch in the rain. I’m never bored!
Worst thing about working for yourself?
Finding your own replacement. I find that I hold high standards for myself and therefore haven’t found someone to cover me yet…
Why did you start your business?
I realized that we spend most of our lives at work, so why not do something that makes you happy?! Why not have a Pawfect Day, every day?
When did you start to think of yourself as an entrepreneur?
I painted my mother’s shelf and put up a sign that said Gift Shop. Stocked it with stickers, mixed tapes, perfumes, posters, choker necklaces and Barbie clothes. It was a big hit at Elementary school, even hired an assistant! Of course, she then left to open up a store of her own, that’s when I learned of competition.
How do you relax?
Riding my bike on the East River Esplanade to and from work and petting as many pooches as possible in between. They are so therapeutic! Singing in the shower comes in second best!
What is something that you are known for?
Always have a pet story. I can’t help it, what can I say. My happiest and most random stories involve pets. I mean who runs into a chicken on their to the grocery store,
stops traffic for a family of ducks on their way to class?
What 5 things would you never like to be without?
A pet, family, music, Internet and a friend.
What’s a business that you think is interesting or inspiring?
I am inspired by businesses concentrating on self-improvement. I’m a believer that we cannot truly help others if we don’t help ourselves first. These businesses open up different paths to finding fulfillment in your life so you may be able to make a positive impact around you.
Who is a person that inspires you?
My mentor Judy Josey has been a driving force throughout my life. I was blessed to be partnered with her during college and she has always been an example of perseverance through the most difficult times. She is a fort of courage, strength and compassion. As an entrepreneur herself, she gives true meaning to “dust yourself off and try again…and again and yet again”.
