Best thing about working for yourself?
Freedom

Worst thing about working for yourself?
Adjusting to the lack of a steady paycheck. After 12 years, I’m finally comfortable with that!

Why did you start your business?
I was passionate about the admissions process and felt limited in my work as an admissions officer. I wanted to be able to do more to help applicants. I also wanted financial freedom – to be able to set the limits, or lack thereof, myself.

When did you start to think of yourself as an entrepreneur?
Right away. I knew that starting something new from scratch was a risk and I had always identified entrepreneurs with risk taking. I also thought ‘entrepreneur’ sounded sexy.

How do you relax?
I am a singer. I sing to relax. I also knit and make hand-made cards. Most of my methods of relaxation involve creative outlets. I also practice yoga. Oh, and I drink and eat. That’s relaxing stuff, too!

What is something that you are known for?
I think among my friends I’m known for my loyalty and my ability to keep confidences. I’m also known for making great guacamole and onion dip. In the IGC community I am known for my ability to coach people through thorny or difficult conversations and for facilitating the 1-to-1 group. I think I’m also known for being the only one in the space who regularly has teenagers coming in and out!

What 5 things would you never like to be without?
A notebook and pen, a scarf or jacket (I hate to be cold), my iPod or some other source of music, something to read, food (I’m lost if I don’t have a snack)

What’s a business that you think is interesting or inspiring?
I love Apple. I’m amazed by their cult following. I love it!
