Worst thing about working for yourself?
I am my toughest critic. With this kind of mindset (which I think many of us share!) it can be tough when you are working on your own. Working as an entrepreneur you can really lose perspective quickly when there is no one to distract you or bounce ideas around with. I have learned (and I am still learning!) to surround myself with positive people to keep this critic quiet and maintain perspective. We all go through this. We need to know when to take a rest.
Why did you start your business?
The corporate world was going too slow, too inflexible and no longer fun. Having my own business was something that was on my bucket list. It was just a matter of time.
When did you start to think of yourself as an entrepreneur?
Throughout my entire career I always looked at every decision or task with the mindset “if this were my own company” so I guess that means I have always felt like an entrepreneur. But the moment I became a consultant with Arbonne was really amazing. I was finally REALLY going to build my own business on my own terms with a product that I believed in.
How do you relax?
Read books that I can’t put down and can’t wait to get home too. Laugh with my husband like we are teenagers.
What is something that you are known for?
Making people feel comfortable and my intuition.
What 5 things would you never like to be without?
My family, laughter, lip balm, moisturizer and the gym (I am not really this shallow!)
What’s a business that you think is interesting or inspiring?
Nursing.
Who is a person that inspires you?
Rita Davenport, the president of Arbonne International. You really need to see her speak in front of 8000 women to understand this but she is a remarkable women who has done so much for so many people despite all of the obstacles in her life. She is smart, intuitive, a risk taker, a giver, honest, hard working, hilarious and the most loved leader I have ever seen in any organization.
