Our story, like that of so many entrepreneurs, is one that is rooted in problem solving.
After many years of running a consulting practice focused on women business owners and women in career transition (many of whom wanted to make the jump into entrepreneurship), we identified several reoccurring challenges that our clients faced, many of which expressed a sense of isolation.
This isolation was articulated in pains: not knowing other women who were in the same boat, not knowing where to go to learn more about running a business and how to grow into a more confident business owner, not having a professional and affordable place to work when their home office was making them feel cut off from the rest of the world, a way to work around other people, or a place they could proudly host clients.
As business owners ourselves, we also struggled with these same challenges and realized that there was not an existing resource that we could turn to.
In the spirit of entrepreneurship, we began to see this need in the marketplace as an opportunity to create a solution. And so In Good Company (IGC) was born.
We created IGC to be both a community for women business owners ripe with learning opportunities and a physical co-working space where women could come to work.meet.learn. Since opening 3 years ago, we have supported hundreds of women entrepreneurs in the tri-state area and connected with women business owners throughout the country.
During the summer of 2010 we expanded to add an additional workspace that includes full-time offices and dedicated desk
space to address the growing needs of our membership. In addition, Adelaide and Amy wrote The Big Enough Company:
Creating a Business that Works for You (published by Penguin in September 2011). The Big Enough Company helps all entrepreneurs get the most out of their experience of entrepreneurship and features examples and stories of over 150 women business owners throughout the country.
In Good Company’s purpose, practices and policies reflect our core beliefs about women entrepreneurship and their offerings are based in our overall mission to elevate the status of women entrepreneurs.
In Good Company Workplaces has also been the subject of multiple press outlets in addition to several academic research projects (including Room with a Crew) that have examined the impact of community on women’s experience of entrepreneurship.
Amy Abrams, co-founder, has over 10 years of entrepreneurial experience. Through her work over the past decade, Amy has helped hundreds of individuals launch and grow their own businesses.
Amy is also the founder of Artists & Fleas (www.artistsandfleas.com), a marketplace for emerging artists, designers and vintage collectors in Brooklyn. Over the past seven years, Artists & Fleas has helped thousands of artists and designers showcase their creations. Artists & Fleas has been recognized as a major tourist destination in New York City and has received numerous press accolades. Amy also founded Interactive Pipeline, a recruiting firm specializing in placements for start-up start-up companies.
Amy served as a as a Principal Partner at Berkman Fives, LLC, a consulting firm for women professionals and entrepreneurs. Prior to these ventures, Amy worked as Marketing Director at a software company and at an investment bank and consulting firm in Israel. In addition to an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University, Amy has a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Amy is currently on the board of the Open Space Alliance of North Brooklyn (www.openspacealliancenb.org/)

Adelaide earned a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology and a M.A. in Organizational Psychology, both from Columbia University. She also earned her B.A. degree in Sociology and Anthropology, Educational Studies, from Colgate University. Adelaide also writes The Big Enough Company column on Forbes.com and is a contributor to The Huffington Post and Daily Muse.
