Entrepreneurship is a funny animal. There are lots of contradictory truths about the experience. Here’s a list of a few…what others should be added?
- We don’t want anyone to tell us what to do. YET we spend a lot of time looking for “answers” about how to best move forward.
- We are desperate to have complete freedom arranging our work life. YET we have the toughest time managing and motivating ourselves and continually make choices that undermine our productivity.
- We say we want to do things our way. YET we invest a lot of time seeking validation and confirmation from others that what we are doing is right.
- We know (or quickly learn) that soliciting advice and feedback from other entrepreneurs is critical for success. YET too many opinions leave us paralyzed and overwhelmed.
- We know (or quickly learn) that it’s important to keep your eye on your “competitors” activities. YET too much time spend focused externally undermines our own businesses and shakes our confidence.
- We understand that our time is our most valuable asset. YET we continue to needlessly waste it but saying yes to things that aren’t worthwhile.
- We know that it’s important to say NO to requests and opportunities that aren’t aligned with our goals. YET we look for every possible reason to say YES first, and then second guess our decisions to decline.
Help me complete the top 10…what other double edge swords have you found to be true?
-Adelaide
